Evelyn Opgrand

Evelyn Ellen Opgrand, 85, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Tufte Manor in Grand Forks. She was born on June 16, 1925 to Harry and Lucille (Leeper) Tinnel at Council Bluff, IA. Evelyn grew up and attended school in rural Waubun.

In June of 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Marvin Hasz at Waubun, MN. They were blessed with four children: Janice, Judith, Katherine and Daniel. Together they farmed near Borup, MN. Marvin died in a tragic accident in 1959. Evelyn married Norman Johnson in about 1960. They were blessed with a daughter, Sheila. They lived and farmed east of Ada, MN. On September 9, 1970, Evelyn married Carleton Opgrand in South Dakota. They lived near Halstad, before moving to Hillsboro in the early 1980's. Following Carlton's passing, Evelyn moved to Grand Forks, ND. On December 4, 2009, she moved into the Tufte Manor.
Over the years, Evelyn had been employed in food services, holding positions from management to cook. This work complimented Evelyn because she loved to cook. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Ada, serving as past president. After moving to Grand Forks, Evelyn volunteered as a foster grandparent at St. Michael's School. She thoroughly loved the people she grew to know, especially the children. She also served as a site manager for the Grand Forks Senior Citizen Center. Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
