Eveline "Evie" Anderson, 75, of Gary, MN, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, in her home.
Eveline Mae Hanson was born April 6, 1939, the daughter of Henry and Esther (Masche) Hanson on the family farm near Gary. Evie was baptized in the summer of 1939, at her pastor's home. As a young adult, Evie confirmed her faith by Herbert S. Larson at Gary Lutheran Church, where she became a lifelong member. She attended Gary school and graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1957.
On June 5th, 1959 Evie was united in marriage to Vernon Anderson at the Dilworth Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born: Virgil, Cari and Jill. They made their home in Halstad, Ada and Gary before they built a home in Shelly, MN, where they lived for a several years. In 1970, they purchased a farm by the river near Twin Valley, which they operated and raised sheep, hogs and dairy cattle. Vernon and Evie moved to the Gary community in 1975, where they made their home for several years.
Evie was employed with several jobs over the years, most of which involved cooking, baking and catering. In 1988, Evie met a wonderful companion, Lloyd Halland. He shared her love of music and they enjoyed going to dances together. Evie had a special talent for playing piano and accordion by ear, which was enjoyed by many. Other favorite pastimes of Evie's included: playing bingo, gardening, canning what she produced, and especially baking Christmas goodies, lefse and doughnuts. She also loved to feed the birds and always looked forward to the spring when the Baltimore Orioles came back, saving treats for them. Evie loved rodeos and was an avid follower of all sports. She rarely missed the Olympics, Twins, and Timberwolves, and loved a good football game. She liked sewing, making clothing and handiwork such as doing embroidery. Evie loved spending time with family and friends, but she truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evie is survived by two daughters, Cari (Barry) Halland and Jill (Mike) Nelson all of Gary, MN; eight grandchildren: Ryan (Brenda) Halland, Amy (Joshua) Pederson, April (David) Swafford all of Hawley, MN, Ross Halland of Gary, MN, Ashley Nelson of Fairview, MT, Kyle Nelson and Brock Nelson, both of Fargo, ND, Rachel (Dustin) Hackey of Roy, WA; four great-grandchildren: Macy and Rogan Pederson, Grant Halland and Josie Hackey; two brothers, Floyd Hanson and Everett "Mickey" (Laurie) Hanson both of Gary; two yet-to-be-born, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Virgil; a sister, Corrine Griewe; and special friend, Lloyd Halland.
Funeral Services were held Monday, January 26, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Gary Lutheran Church, Gary. Visitation was Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. in the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Officiating was Pastor Kelly Ahola with Alden Anderson serving as organist and Sarah Mickelson as vocalist. Pallbearers were Craig Hanson, Corey Hanson, Tanya Hanson, Crystal Stene, Aaron Werpy, and Nathan Griewe. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Interment was in Gary Lutheran Cemetery, Gary.
