Eunice Revier-Suda, age 95, of Mahnomen, MN, formerly of Waubun, MN, died Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Eunice Augusta Diekmeier, daughter of Leo Herman Rudolph and Anna Christine (Jensen) Diekmeier, was born on July 20, 1918, in Franklin, MN. She graduated as Salutatorian from Franklin High School In 1936. As a young woman, Eunice worked at Ben' U Save Grocery Store and also as a waitress at Ramey's Cafe. In 1938, Eunice was united in marriage to Gabriel Loius "G.L." Revier. The couple made their home on a farm near Franklin and began a family. In 1951, Eunice and Gabe purchased a farm in Popple Grove Township where they owned and operated a dairy and hog operation. She was active with the daily farm work, as well as raising their six children. Eunice always had a large vegetable garden . One of her greatest joys was to make an entire meal from the fruits of their labor. In 1971, Eunice attended a Speech Technician program offered through Bemidji State University. She worked for area school districts helping hundreds of children learn to speak more clearly. Gabe passed away in 1982, but Eunice continued this passionate career until her retirement at the age of 70. On February 8, 1986, she married Louis Suda and they were together until his death in 1993. Eunice lived in the Waubun area until 2009 at which time she became a resident of the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Eunice was a devote Christian and was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. She served on the Ladies Aide and taught confirmation well into her 80's. While her children were growing, she was a Band Mother and in the Homemakers Club. She was also busy with many local organizations including Foresters, the Historical Society, and the Mahnomen County Village Hospital Board. Eunice aspired to be a journalist and loved to write. Following her mother's example she wrote the local news column for the Mahnomen Pioneer until the age of 90. She also enjoyed cross word puzzles, sewing, quilting and playing the piano. Eunice was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She cherished each one of her family members. She remembered names and birthdays and treated her many generations of in-laws as her own. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her second great-great grandchild. As a baker, Grandma Eunice was best known for her hot buns and full cookie jars. The precious memories she made with friends and family will be treasured forever.
Eunice is survived by one son, Pete (Delly) Revier of Mahnomen; two daughters; Rita (Ken) Revier-Wirtz of Spokane, WA and Christine (Van) Revier-Carrier of Clear Lake, IA; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Revier of Hawley, MN; two sons-in-law, Les Berg of Hawley and Alex MacKinnon of Nevada City, CA; 25 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gabe and Louis; one son, Tom; two daughters, Mary Berg and Rose MacKinnon; four grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral all in the church.
Interment will be held at the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Waubun, MN.
Memorials preferred to St Ann's Catholic Church and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
