Eunice I. Gunderson, age 87, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Eunice Ione Thronson was born June 5, 1930, at home to Alfred and Sophie (Ellingson) Thronson. Her youth was spent on the farm in Waukon Township, rural Gary, MN. Eunice attended school in Gary and graduated with the class of 1948. Following graduation, she began working at the high school doing secretarial duties. On December 21, 1950, Eunice was united in marriage to Lloyd Gunderson and they made their home in Bejou, MN. Lloyd owned and operated his own trucking business and Eunice handled all the bookkeeping. Over the years, the couple made their home in various communities in addition to Bejou, including Anchorage, AK, Seattle, WA, and Moorhead, MN, before settling down in Detroit Lakes in 1982. Prior to moving to Detroit Lakes, Eunice worked at the courthouse in Mahnomen, the post office in Bejou, the sales barn in Mahnomen and even acting as a hairdresser for the ladies on Saturday mornings.

Eunice, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend was self-sufficient, selfless and kept herself busy with her garden, many sewing projects and family. In the summer, Eunice spent countless hours mowing her lawn and tending to her luscious flower and vegetable gardens, most likely barefooted! Her generosity flowed freely, not only with her abundant produce, but also from her heart. Eunice taught many of her grandkids the art of sewing, baking, cooking and canning, especially some of her favorites like Lefse and pickles. Eunice was also a very talented seamstress, sewing many dresses and numerous quilts. She shared these talents and expressed her patience with her daughters and some of her granddaughters and each year they would get together for a "Sew Fun Retreat". Eunice was a special lady that will be missed by many but remain in their hearts forever.

Eunice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lloyd, of Detroit Lakes; son, Gary (Barb) of Frazee, MN; daughters, Lucille Beckley (Michael Leu) of West Fargo, ND, and Lucinda (Rich) Liebelt of Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Allen (Shirley) Thronson of Ada, MN; sister, Marilyn (Donald) Svenby of Kasson, MN; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert (Doreen) Gunderson, Harlow (Kathy) Gunderson, both of Mahnomen; Ole (Deanna) Gunderson of Gary, MN, and Myrtle Aakhus of Detroit Lakes; and many nieces and nephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Roxann, granddaughter, AunaLaye and a brother, Ordale Thronson.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will take place at Anderson Family Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
