Eugene Charles Roquet, 83, lifetime resident of Ada, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Benedictine Care Community in Ada. He was born on July 29, 1941, to Vernie and Lena (Braunschweig) Roquet, and spent his formative years in the town he cherished.
Eugene's life was marked by hard work and dedication. He began his journey on the family farm, where he learned the values of perseverance and commitment, he then worked for Bob Poehler for a short time before answering the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Army, serving from 1964 to 1970. After his military service, Eugene honed his skills as a carpenter, a profession he excelled in until 1975 when he took on the role of plant manager at the Ada Municipal Hospital/John Wimmer Memorial Home and continued his employment with Benedictine Care Community in Ada. He dedicated nearly three decades to this position before retiring in 2003, although he continued to contribute his skills by working part-time for a security service in Moorhead, MN.
Eugene's life was enriched by his marriage to Avenelle Hitner on December 5, 1969, in Waukon, IA. Their bond was a source of joy until her passing on February 13, 2006. Eugene's love for Avenelle remained a guiding light in his life, and he cherished the memories they created together, and the bonds built with his stepchildren.
In his spare time, Eugene found joy in attending auction sales and traveling, pursuits that allowed him to connect with others and explore new horizons. He was known for his warm smile and kind heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a story. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
Eugene is survived by his stepdaughters, Nanci Schmidt and Pam (Mike) Roquet, both of Ada, MN, along with 12 step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren, brother, Earl (Connie) of Wahpeton, ND and many nieces and nephews who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Avenelle; stepson, Eugene Hitner; stepdaughter, Rita Smith; brothers, Walter, Merlin, William, Harold, Wayne and Marion; and his only sister, Mary Ann Vistad.
