Eugene "Gene" Moore, age 73, of Waubun, MN, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014, under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Eugene Dale was born at home on May 22, 1940, the youngest child of Earl and Lucine (Helvey) Moore. His youth was spent in several towns throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Gene attended country school and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1958. Following graduation, he worked road construction in Minnesota and South Dakota. On July 6, 1963, Eugene was united in marriage to Mary Andring at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. The couple was blessed with two children, Colleen and Dale, and made their home in various towns in Minnesota while Gene worked construction. Settling in Waubun in the late 1960's, Gene farmed and worked for the Waubun Police Department and the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office. In 1981, he retired from farming and continued with the sheriff's office, retiring in 1996 after 26 years of Chief Deputy duties. In Gene's retirement years, he owned and operated Moore's Stump Grinding. Those days were also filled with woodworking, going to the Red Apple and putzin around in his shop. He liked to tinker, construct and remodel any time he could. Over the years, Gene gave of his time and talents to the community around him. He was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Mary passed away January 16, 2013, and Gene remained in their home until the time of his death.
Surviving Gene are his children, Colleen (Mark) Weigel, Centerville, MN, and Dale (Dawn) Moore, Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren: Heidi (Daniel) Neumann, Trevor Weigel, Amanda Moore and Justin Moore; two sisters, Gloria Campbell, Southern California, and Ardella (Vern) Lind, Bagley, MN; one brother, Glen (Marlene) Moore, Bemidji, MN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Visitation was held at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, on Friday, May 16 th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
