Eugene "Gene" George Coulombe, age 86, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Serenity Assisted Living, Shevlin, MN.

Gene was born April 28, 1929, in Stoneham, MA, to George and Therese ( Poulain) Coulombe. As a child, his family relocated to Cass Lake, MN, where he attended school. Following his schooling, Gene joined the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he made his home in Alaska and worked on the railroad. Gene returned to Northern Minnesota and met the love of his life, Lottie Brown. He worked road construction most of his life and as a result they moved quite frequently. They settled in Mahnomen a few years back and Lottie passed away on July 14, 2014. Lottie and Gene were never far apart, so it is with great belief that she was there to welcome Gene with open arms last Tuesday.

Lottie and Gene truly treasured spending time with family and friends.   Always a twinkle in his eye, he loved to tease and tell jokes accompanied by his hearty laugh. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and being an all-around outdoorsman. After losing his wife of 58 ½ years, Gene moved to Serenity Assisted Living, rural Shevlin. Residing at Serenity allowed him to continue to appreciate the simple beauty of nature in addition to the company of the staff and other residents. He was known to be a fierce SkipBo card player and would challenge anyone to a game. Gene loved the Lord and could often be heard saying, thank you Jesus, as he went about his day.

Gene is survived by his son, George (Pam) Coulombe, Bemidji, MN; two grandsons: Brady (Jodi) Coulombe & Tyler (Lindsay) Coulombe; four great-grandchildren; Emma, Katelyn, Max and Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Robert Coulombe.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen.

Interment will be held at Free Gospel Alliance Cemetery, Naytahwaush, MN.
