Ervin Glenn Trontvedt, 94, of Fertile, MN, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN. He was born on February 12, 1920, to Alfred and Helen (Brue) Trontvedt at Schafer, ND. He was baptized in 1934 at Ryder, North Dakota, where he also attended country school. At the age of 14 Ervin moved to Minnesota, first to Gary, then to Fertile. He worked for area farmers before joining his father in farming in 1944. In 1949, Ervin bought ½ interest in a trucking firm with Charles Stuhaug. They hauled cattle to West Fargo and returned with freight. In 1955, Chuck sold his interest to Tilman Hegre and Ervin partnered with Tilman and Ervin continued farming. Ervin moved to Crookston to work for Adolph Haugen hauling freight and beer from Minneapolis/St Paul to Crookston, Thief River Falls and Ada.
In 1962, Ervin married Lee (Stai) Rindahl at Crookston, and they were blessed with a son, Daniel in 1964. He began hauling for Old Dutch Foods from Grand Forks to St Paul, and various other towns. In 1972 Ervin purchased a truck and hauled french fries to the Twin Cities and later, grain to Duluth and St Paul, MN.
On June 14, 1975, Ervin was united in marriage to Ruby (Sykes) Rude at Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN. They owned and operated the Top Notch Steak House in Fertile, retiring in 1984. Ervin cared for the Polk County fair grounds for over 25 years taking great pride in his work. He also helped his son in law, Steve Gullickson, with farm work for many years. Ruby died on November 8, 2003. Ervin continued to live in his own home at Fertile to the present.
Ervin had a loving and generous heart, caring for and encouraging those around him. Woodworking has kept Ervin busy. He also spent time playing cards and helping his son-in-law, Ralph. He and Ruby enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing. Ervin has been a longtime member of Faaberg Lutheran Church. He loved his family and cherished their times together.
From his first marriage Ervin is survived by step-daughter, Sandra (Warren C.) Juengel, Sanford, MI, step-son Michael (Robin) Rindahl, Mebane, N.C. From his second marriage he is survived by step son-in-law, Ron Muellner of Brainerd , step-daughter, Lois (Ralph) LeBlanc of Fertile, step-daughter, Georgia (Steve) Gullickson of Bejou , step-daughter, Jane (LeRoy) Opdahl of Fertile , step-son, Richard Rude of Kalispell MT; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Vi Hemming, Pequot Lakes, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, son Daniel, two step-daughters, Yvonne and Connie, and two sisters, Gladys Troite and Eileen Hanson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 23, 2014, at 11 AM in the Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 4-6 PM with a prayer service at 5:30 PM in Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
