Erma Audrey Solie, 82, of Fertile, MN, died on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN. She was born on December 17, 1931, to Willie and Julia (Dale) Gudvangen in Godfrey Township, rural Fertile. Erma was baptized and confirmed at the Maple Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. She attended country school near her home.
On December 22, 1949, Erma was united in marriage to Vernon "Bud" Solie at the Concordia parsonage in Fertile. Together, Erma and Bud farmed and raised their children north of Fertile. Erma worked with Bud on the farm doing chores, growing vegetables for canning, making jelly and sewing clothes for the family. Erma developed very good sewing skills and blessed many with her work.
Erma was a gentle and quiet person who had a deep Christian faith. Playing piano and accordion was a hidden talent that those close to her knew. Erma was excellent cook; her specialties were ham soup with dumplings and her famous donuts. Her grandchildren loved going to Grandma's so they could have a special donut. Keeping her home spotless allowed her to keep a beautiful dwelling place for her family. Her life revolved around her family and their families, as she had a tremendous love and grateful heart for each one of them.
Erma is survived by her children: Lyle (Vickie), Shirley (Monty) Halgrimson, and Audrey (Randy) Olson, all of Fertile; one son-in-law, Larry Hassel, Fertile; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Doris Michaels, Fertile; Wilber (Francis) Gudvangen, Fertile; and Maynard (Adrienne) Gudvangen, Fort Myers, FL; many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bud (1990), daughter, Judy Hassel (2009), sisters and brothers: Norma Nephew, Willie "Buddy" Gudvangen, LeRoy Gudvangen, and Corrine Berhow.


Funeral services will be on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 11:00, Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be from 3-5 PM, on Sunday, November 9, 2014, with a 4:30 Prayer Service at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile.

Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN
