Emma B. Oanes, 99, Halstad, Minnesota, died Monday, February 6, 2012, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

Emma Bergit Aamodt was born May 18, 1912, at home, rural Lockhart, MN, the daughter of E. N. and Bergit (Hoiland) Aamodt. She attended country school in Good Hope Township of Norman County and later graduated in 1931 from Halstad High School. Emma earned her teacher's certificate from Mayville (ND) State Teachers College. She started her career in education as a country school teacher at the Lincoln School near Shelly, MN. After some time, she met Rangvald Oanes and they were married on November 6, 1941, at the Bethany Lutheran Church east of Shelly. She put her teaching on hold for some years and was a homemaker and mother, raising Arlen on the farm west of Halstad. She was active in her church with Ladies Aid, Bolivia Mission and teaching Sunday School. She enjoyed reading, painting, baking, and doing crafts. She resumed teaching at the Herberg Township country school in Traill County for some years and later at Halstad Public School before retiring. In the 1960's they moved into Halstad and she resided in her home until moving to the Halstad Living Center in 1996. Rangvald died in 1993.

Emma is survived by her son, Arlen (Bonnie) Oanes, Halstad, three grandchildren, Debbie (Todd) Callander, Big Lake, MN, Darin (Wendy) Oanes, Hillsboro, ND, and Denae (Kevin) Wiley, Mission, TX, seven great grandchildren, Mitchell and Jake Callander, Tom, Peter, and Kate Oanes, Braylahn and Adley Wiley, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, one brother, Odin Aamodt, and three sisters, Helen Libak, Nora (Nelson)Viste, and Ethel Aamodt.

Memorial Service: 2:00 pm, Friday, February 10, 2012, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: Friday for one hour at the church before the service.

Burial: Halstad South Cemetery, Halstad, MN.
