Elvina Christine Anderson passed away peacefully from this life into Glory at the age of 94 on June 27, 2013 under the care of Hospice of the Red River and her family.
Elvina Christine Pederson was born on September 14, 1918 to Simon and Christine (Sagness) Pederson at York, North Dakota. Elvina attended county schools and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1938. She married Gilman Anderson in Mahnomen, MN on October 20, 1943 and they farmed together until failing health forced them to slow up. She was never afraid of hard work, whether it was milking, haying, driving tractor, or whatever needed to be done. Elvina continued to help her son, Donald, farm until these last years when her sight failed her.
Family & friends were always welcome in their home. Many nieces, nephews, and later the grandchildren stayed with them and have great memories of their time on the farm. She also cared for children for several families over the years, babysitting till parents where done with work. Elvina and her sister, Tena Allrich, volunteered at the nursing home in Twin Valley for more than 30 years. She was also a very active member of the Mission Ladies Aide bible study group. Elvina loved applique quilting, embroidery, reading, and baking. She made a lot of bread in her lifetime; with Donald's assistance she was able to continuing making bread until last year. Elvina was always known for her wonderful lefse and other Norwegian treats.
She is survived by sons, David (Dianne) of Havre, MT; Myron (Cheryl) of Twin Valley, and Donald of Gary; seven grandchildren; Jammy (Melanie) Anderson, Chad (Ruth) Anderson, Michelle (Shawn) Mariani,
Greg (Cindy) Anderson, Kari (Ron) Visser, Lori (Todd) Alisch, Nathan (Kelly) Anderson, 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilman; five sisters: Caroline, Olga, Nina, Tena, and Hilda; and four brothers: Melvin, Bennie, Selmer, and Calmer.
Funeral services were Wednesday, July 3 at 11:00am in the Dovre Free Lutheran Church, Winger, MN. Pastor Raynard Hutgen officiated. Visitation was held Tuesday, July 2 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with Chaplin Lauryl Ivers leading a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm all in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, MN. Organist was Meredith Bershein. Pallbearers were Jammy Anderson, Chad Anderson, Greg Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Earl Buschette, Melvin Allrich, and Allen Anderson.
Interment took place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
