Obituary

Elnora R Winter, age 101, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.

Elnora Rosella Dobmeyer, the daughter of John and Philomine (Koeplin) Dobmeyer, was born July 4, 1910 at Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, Canada. As a young girl, Elnora moved with her family back to the United States, settling on a farm near Beaulieu, MN, east of Mahnomen. She attended country school and greatly enjoyed learning to play piano and singing. On February 17, 1932 Elnora was united on marriage to Herman Winter, her father's hired man. The couple made their home in Mahnomen for the next 45 years. Together they entertained often and attended many Minnesota Twins games. Elnora worked for several years at Edna's Market and as a waitress at the Corner Café. She then began a 20 year career as a dental assistant, working for Dr Franta, Dr. Kawsoski and Dr. Diekman. After Herman's death in 1977, Elnora remained in Mahnomen but traveled often with friends and family. She loved to play cards, cook and entertain others. She delighted in her trips to the Red Apple Café and always had room for a piece of pie. Elnora was a member at St. Michael's Church, the ladies aide, Catholic Daughters of America, Homemakers, and various card clubs. She also loved to play piano, sing, garden, and was an avid golfer.

Elnora is survived by one sister, Alice Norquist of Bagley, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Elnora is preceded in death by her husband, Herman; four sisters: Katie, Dora, Loretta, and Valeria; and three brothers: George, Fernand and Morbert.
