Eleanor "Tiny" Thorson, age 99, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly Twin Valley, MN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks.
Eleanor Evangeline Everson was born March 27, 1916, to Herman and Clara (Wermager) Everson in Fossom Township near Gary, MN. Eleanor was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church, rural Gary. She attended country schools and went to high school in Gary and Twin Valley. Eleanor learned to cook and bake at an early age, as she was the oldest of eleven children. Eleanor was united in marriage to Gilman Thorson on November 5, 1932. The couple lived in the Waukon and Bear Park area until 1942, when they moved to Grand Forks with their two children, Evonne and Lyle. Gilman was employed in Grand Forks for the next 12 years and Eleanor also worked at a grocery store and as a receptionist at a hotel. While living in Grand Forks, they were members of the United Lutheran Church. In 1954, they returned to the Gary area and farmed. Gilman passed away in 1994. In 1995, after living on the same farm for 41 years, Eleanor moved to Twin Valley where she resided until moving into the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND, during the summer of 2012.
"Tiny", as she was known to everyone, was an active member of St. Petri Lutheran Church where she took part in WELCA, quilting and taught Sunday school for a short time. She was also a volunteer at Lutheran Memorial Home for several years. Eleanor's favorite pastimes included doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, cooking, baking as well as being an avid reader. Eleanor dearly loved her family and all of her grandchildren.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Lyle (Suzie) Thorson of Grand Forks, ND; a son-in-law, Curtis Reardon of Twin Valley, MN; three brothers: John (Sandy) Everson of Coon Rapids, MN, Pastor Dennis (Joanne) Everson of Nevis, MN, and Allan (Gaye) Everson of Ione, CA, two sisters-in-law, Marian Everson of Greenbush and Rosanna Everson of California; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Gilman; her special and only daughter, Evonne Reardon; a grandson, Jay; five brothers: Jeffrey, Wallace, Ole, and infants, Wallace and Gene; two sisters, Lorayne and Harriet.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Gary Lutheran Church, Gary. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Officiating were Pastors John Ahola, Dennis Everson and Joe Natwick. Serving as organist was Alden Anderson with special music provided by Joe, Jake, and Tom Natwick and Brianna Makovsky. Pallbearers were Jarod Thorson, Rod Thorson, Charles Makovsky, Brian Natwick, Curtis Reardon and Mike Nelson.
Interment was in St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gary.
