Eleanor Schoenborn, age 90, of Mahnomen, MN, entered eternal life on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Eleanor Eveslage, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Klinkhammer) Eveslage, was born on January 23, 1930 in Mahnomen.  She grew up near Beaulieu, MN, where she attended country school.  As a young woman, Eleanor worked at the college in Crookston, MN. On May 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Marvin Schoenborn and the couple started their adventure together.  As Marvin was serving in the military, Eleanor loyally moved and made her home with him.  She proudly worked at the Radio Factory in Chicago, IL, for a time before Marvin's honorable discharge in the early 1950's when they returned home to Mahnomen.  Shortly thereafter, they began their family and were blessed with four children.  Eleanor was a devoted mother and enjoyed keeping house.  She was very involved in her children's lives and took on the role as Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Pack for many years.  In 1980, after her youngest son graduated, Eleanor reentered the workforce as a cook at the Mahnomen Public school.  She officially retired in 1995 but stayed busy with the St. Michael's Ladies Aide and spending time with her grandchildren.  Eleanor was an avid sports fan and was her grandchildren's greatest fan.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking treats, especially over the holidays and was known for her wonderful Christmas cookies.  There wasn't a graduation, birthday celebration, wedding or family get together without an entire table dedicated for her desserts, bars and cookies.  She loved being at home but also enjoyed going out to the Casino.  If you ever asked her though, she'd tell you she never wins anything and then just giggle and say "well not in a long time anyway".  After Marvin's death in 2016, Eleanor continued to live in her own home until just recently when she entered the Mahnomen Nursing Home at the age of 90.

Eleanor is survived by four children: Debbie (Terrance) Handyside of Mahnomen, Dewey (Pam) Schoenborn of Moorhead, MN, Becky (Jeff) Abele of Glyndon, MN, and Dan (Lisa) Schoenborn of Mahnomen; seven grandchildren: Amy (Tom) Houdek, Samantha (Ryan) Goeser, Kayla Abele, Tyson Schoenborn, Taylor Schoenborn, Jason Schoenborn and Brian Schoenborn; five great-grandchildren: Cooper, Morgan, Tate, Braxton, and Tenley; sisters, Rena Bruggeman of Mahnomen, and Elaine (Corky) Kaiser of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Jan Eveslage; brothers and sisters-in-law: LaVerne and Verla Schoenborn, Delmar and Betty Schoenborn, Anthony and Joan Schoenborn, and Sylvester and Pat Schoenborn all of Mahnomen; and many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie; grandson, Tommy Handyside; two sisters, Eldora "Dodie" Barrack and Heide Tritbough, three brothers: Wilbert "Bert" Eveslage, Joseph "Joey" Eveslage and Jerome "Romi" Eveslage; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Wally and Mardell Schoenborn and Milo and Lucille Winter.
