Obituary

Eleanor E. Cary, 92, of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Moorhead, MN.

Eleanor Esther was born February 1, 1915, in Springfield, MN, to Henry and Mary (Boetcher) Beckman. She was baptized in Springfield and at an early age, Eleanor moved with her family to Norman County, Minnesota. She grew up in Norman County, attending Cheerful Nook School and helping area families on the farm and with their children.

On June 6, 1935, Eleanor was united in marriage to Cecil D. Cary. The couple made their home in Flom, MN, where they raised their family and Eleanor made and sold lefse from their home. Following Cecil's death in 1970, Eleanor remained in Flom until building her home in Mahnomen in 1973. She remained in her own home until her health prohibited her from living alone and she moved into Golden Living Center in Moorhead on November 27, 2007.

Eleanor was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mahnomen. Through the church, she was active with the LWML (Lutheran Women Missionary League). The hobby that occupied most of Eleanor's time was embroidery. She embroidered many, many dish towels, baby blankets and tablecloths and pieced quilt tops for family and friends. In the past, Eleanor had a huge garden and she enjoyed canning, selling fresh raspberries and strawberries and also sharing its produce with others. She also liked reading, baking, decorating wedding cakes, and going for drives. When she was able, Eleanor would often pick up a few other ladies and they would attend church, go out for dinner and go for a scenic drive.

Eleanor is survived by three daughters: Jacqualine (Larry) Lovas, Blanchard, ND, Gloria (Robert) Danielson, Fargo, ND, and Laenea (Ralph) Jackson, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Viola Beckman, Mahnomen, Leona Saatoff, Waubun, MN, and Norma Bjorgen, Monroe, GA. In addition to her husband, Cecil, her parents and one brother, Edwin Beckman, preceded Eleanor in death.
