Eleanor Burtness, age 89, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Friday, November 19, 2010, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Eleanor Mildred Olman was born June 20, 1921 to Oscar & Manda (Kjeldson) Olman. She was raised on a farm east of Twin Valley, Minnesota and attended country school near there. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Faith, Minnesota. Eleanor graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1940. After graduation, she went to California and served her country as a welder in a Defense Plant. Also while living in California, she was a model of fur coats. Eleanor returned to Minnesota in 1945.

On May 8th, 1948 Eleanor was united in marriage to Halvor Burtness in Gary, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Ulen and they later moved into Ulen. After several years, Eleanor and Halvor moved to the Northern Lights Apartments and Viking Manor Nursing Home. Eleanor and Halvor also wintered in Arizona a few years.

Eleanor enjoyed gardening, canning and was an excellent cook. Other favorite past times included playing cards as well as taking an active part in Bible Study.

Eleanor is survived by a nephew, Lloyd Slette of East Grand Forks, MN and neices, LaVern Samshal and Arlene Bushie both of Crookston, MN, Carol Olman of Ada, MN and several cousins.

She is preceded in death is her parents, husband Halvor, a brother Milton Olman, and a sister Ella Slette.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 27th, 2010, at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Dahl with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Lloyd Slette serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Kim Syverson, Keith Olson, Dennis Olson, Walter Schneidermann, Stuart Burtness and Dan Pritchard.

Interment will be in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
