Eldon Thorson, age 80 of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Eldon Lyle Thorson was born November 29, 1927, the son of Oscar and Stella (Anker) Thorson, at home near Flom, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Aspelund Lutheran Church near Flom. As a young boy he attended country grade school near his home and later Waubun High School. In 1946, he was drafted into the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge in 1947. Once returning home, Eldon joined his brothers, Charles and Dennis, and they began farming together. Together they operated a dairy farm raising registered Holsteins. Eldon also worked extensively with his horses. He enjoyed riding horses both for work and pleasure. He retired in the late 1980's, and shortly after moved into the Normandy Apartments in Twin Valley where he made his home for many years. While there, Eldon loved to have visitors and often shared photos of the farm with them over a cup of coffee. Due to failing health, Eldon recently entered the Twin Valley Living Center.
Eldon is survived by one brother, Dennis (Violet) of Twin Valley, Minnesota; two nieces, Annette Thorson of Jacksonville, Florida, and Cheryl (Bryen) Rohrbach of Big Lake, Minnesota; two great nephews, Kendell and Kobe Harrell of Jacksonville, and Kyra Rohrbach of Big Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 21, 2008 at Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom, MN, with Pastor Chad Pederson officiating. Monica Winter was the soloist with Carol Johnson as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Merlyn Olson, Michael Baukol, Jerri Thompson, Jerry Anker, David Lien, and Gary Lunde. All of his old friends and the residents of the Normandy Apartments served as honorary bearers. Military honors were provided by the Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the American Legion.
Interment took place at Aspelund Cemetery, Flom, Minnesota.
