Ed Stanhope, 48, of Waubun, MN passed away suddenly on September 15, 2016 due to a massive heart attack.
Edwin Lee Stanhope was born February 14, 1968 in Moorhead, MN. He was the only child of Ernest Jr. and Donna (Fleisher) Stanhope of Waubun. As a 1986 graduate of Waubun High School, Ed went on to attend Moorhead State and earned a degree in auto mechanics before following in his father's footsteps to make his life-long career with Otis Elevator Company beginning in 1990. Ed was gratified to be a part of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. He thought of his fellow union members as a second family. Ed's career with Otis allowed him the opportunity to move to various places, but he always wanted to stay within easy traveling distance to his home in Waubun.
In 1990, Ed married Heather Joy Phillips and was very proud of their two sons, Jameson Lee and Jackson Henry. Ed and Angel met in 2003 and wed on September 3, 2005 in Bismarck, ND. In early 2006, Edwin adopted Kera, Angel's daughter. As a child, Edwin spent a fairly large amount of time at his Aunt Bets and "second dad" Uncle Lloyd's farm with their children. Edwin's high level of curiosity and energy made it possible for him to make most experiences turn into a life lesson, which he sometimes didn't heed. Ed received his work ethic from his parents, which was simple but effective. Work hard. Play hard. But work comes first. Ed was always willing to learn something new and tackle any project. Ed wouldn't quit until something was completed. If the outcome wasn't perfect, he would announce to all that it was "RUSTIC"!
There was no end to Ed's level of friendship. If you were Ed's friend, you were his friend for life. His childhood classmates were his friends to the end. Ed never knew people as strangers, but as potential friends. In 2009, Ed and Angel returned to his childhood home. He was overjoyed when in 2012, his sons joined them and attended Ed's alma mater, Waubun High. Even better, Jameson and Jackson played football. Ed was a lifelong fan of the Waubun Bombers and did everything in his power to attend games. He could be heard across the entire field cheering on the team, "GO BLUE!" An avid deer hunter and fisherman, Ed took every opportunity to guide and teach his sons to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors, just as Ernie had shown him. It was important to Ed that his boys carry on the tradition of "deer camp" established so long ago.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Edwin is survived by his wife Angel, daughter Kera (Brady) Reich, sons Jameson Lee and Jackson Henry, grandson Draeke, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
