Edwin "Fred" Sargent, age 55, of Mahnomen, MN, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home.

Fred was born August 30, 1954 in White Earth, MN, the son of Melvin and Ozelda (Blair) Sargent. He grew up near Beaulieu, MN, and attended Mahnomen Public School. At the age of 11, Fred moved with his family to the Minneapolis, MN, area. As a young man, he worked in Minneapolis until February of 1974, when he joined the United States Marines. He was honorably discharged and returned to the metro area. While living in Minneapolis, Fred was married and together with his wife, they had four children: Cory, Danny, Matt and Kendra. In 2000, he moved back to the Mahnomen area to make his home. He has lived with his sister, Delores, for the past three years and had been employed by the Shooting Star Casino.
Fred was a quiet individual who kept to himself. He enjoyed exercising and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his children: Matthew Sargent, Cory Sargent, Danny (Maggie) Sargent and Kendra Sargent; a granddaughter, Maddie Sargent; four brothers: Alvin Sargent, Douglas (Debbie) Sargent, Donovan (Linda) Sargent, and Melvin (Geraldine) all of Naytahwaush, MN; two sisters, Delores Keogh of Mahnomen and June Boyd of McGregor, MN.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11 am at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex. Visitation was held at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex beginning Monday, March 22nd at 3 pm with a wake service at 7 pm and continued until the time of the service on Tuesday. Services were led by Michael Dahl. Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy McCormick, John McCormick, Alvin Sargent Jr., Kenneth Taylor Jr. James Chosa and Dustin Keezer. Honorary bearers included Michael McCormick, Michael Sargent, Christopher Sargent, Jeremy Sargent and Faith Ann Sargent.

Burial was in Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery, Naytahwaush, MN.
