Edward Schoenborn, age 99, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Edward Edwin was born in Mahnomen on April 6, 1908, the son of Christian and Anna Marie (Rassier) Schoenborn. As a youngster he attended rural school and worked on the family farm. In 1941, Ed was united in marriage to Martha Ahmann at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. They made their first home in Milwaukee, WI. While there, Ed worked at the Pabst Brewery as a high climber. After two years, they returned to Mahnomen and began farming. Ed and Martha operated the farm until 1972 when their son, Jerome, purchased it. In 1973, they moved into a home in Mahnomen where they continued to reside.
Ed was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Mahnomen Council #2573. He loved to dance, especially the square dance and polka with Martha. Ed proudly danced with the bride at each of his grandchildren's wedding dances, even at the age of 97. He was always ready for a game of cards with his children and grandchildren. Ed also enjoyed his trips to the Red Apple to throw dice and play cards. His smile will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of Mahnomen; six children: Jerome (Ann) of Waubun, Richard (Herta) of Lakeville, MN; daughter, Geraldine (Clarence) Winter of Lakeville, MN, Leonard (Mary) of Livonia, MI, Kenneth (Kathleen) of Keller, TX and Donald (Julie) of Lakeville, MN; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
