Obituary

Edward J. Liebl, age 83, of Mahnomen, MN died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Edward was born October 29, 1924 in Mahnomen, MN, the son of John and Anna (Naubauer) Liebl. He was raised on the farm south of Mahnomen and attended the Liebl Country School. As a young man, he met Gladys Machulda at the Corner Café. The couple was married on November 6, 1945 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. They made their home on the Liebl farm where Ed worked with his father. Ed later purchased the farm and in 1965, he and Gladys built a new home on the site. Together they farmed, raised livestock, and milked cows for many years. He also spent many seasons custom harvesting in the Fosston area for various farmers. After Gladys' death in 2003, Ed continued to operate the farm until 2004, at which time he sold it to Jerred Jirava. Ed continued to live in his home and help on the farm as often as he could, even after his retirement.
Ed truly enjoyed farming and took great pride in his crops and livestock. He was always tinkering around and could fix about anything. He was a dedicated member of St. Michael's Catholic Church as well as a past Knights of Columbus member. Ed also loved animals and liked to read in his spare time. He cherished his family and especially looked forward to the annual 4th of July family gatherings that they held for over 14 years. Ed was very involved in all of his grandchildren's lives and touched each one in a special way. He will be greatly missed.
Ed is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ruud of Moorhead, MN, and Annette (Ken) Krebsbach of New Praque, MN; a daughter-in-law, Frances "Fritz" Liebl of Bemidji, MN; a sister, Sally Nelson of Mahnomen; five grandchildren, Allen (Shelly) Liebl, Gail Liebl, Josh Krebsbach, Uriah Liebl, and Cassie Coyle-Draeger; and two great grandchildren, Nikkiah and Riley.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; his son, Kenneth; and his daughter, Marie.
