Edward P. Herold, age 91, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Monday, October 02, 2006, in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Edward Peter Herold was born February 21, 1915, to Joseph and Catherine (Gruchot) Herold in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended elementary school. In 1929, Ed entered Nazareth Hall where he received his high school and college education. In 1935, Ed attended the St. Paul Seminary from which he was ordained in 1941. He then served as assistant at Sacred heart Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. In 1944, he was assigned as pastor at Wilton, Minnesota and later Georgetown, Fertile, Oslo and Twin Valley, Minnesota. During this time he built three churches which were in Georgetown, Twin Valley and Fertile. In Fertile he also built the Rectory. In 1964, Ed was released from his priestly obligations and began working at the Farnsworth Envelope Company in Camden, New York.
Ed married Bernice M. Arvig on March 17, 1967, in Syracuse, New York. They made their home in Twin Valley. He was vice-president of the Twin Valley-Ulen Telephone Company until his retirement in December 1984. Bernice died October 14, 1996. After her death, Ed resided at his White Earth Lake home for several years. On April 17, 2006, Ed entered the Twin Valley Living Center where he continued to make his home until the time of his death.
Ed was active and held offices in numerous civic affairs including being a charter member of the Twin Valley Lions Club, Twin Valley Booster Club, Norman County Housing and Redevelopment Authority and assisted in organizing and serving as General Supervisor of the Twin Valley Rescue Squad. Ed was secretary of the Viking Snowmobile Company in Twin Valley and helped in getting Sno-Mo Days started in Twin Valley as well. He was an advanced first aid instructor for the Norman County Sheriff's Search and Rescue. Ed was co-founder of the White Earth Lake Association and also the Laketrails Camp on Oak Island where he built the chapel for Laketrails. Ed was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, member and president of the Shelter Workshop, Youth Director for Crookston Diocese for 12 years and a Confirmation Instructor.
Ed is survived by nephews, Robert (Jan) Herold and Jim (Sheryl) Herold both of Duluth, MN and Richard Skrivanek of Mendota Heights, MN and a niece, Betty Nelson of Lutsen, MN; a brother-in-law, Henry Tembrock of Elk River, MN; sisters-in-law, Joan Bringe of Fargo, ND and Eva Donovan of Monticello, MN; as well as a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice, four brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Herbert and Norbert and two sisters, Katherine and Mathilda.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 5, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus, in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 6 at 10:00 AM in St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. Officiating will be Father Tom Fridel with Monica Winter providing music. Pallbearers will be Mark Skrivanek, Edward Skrivanek, Christopher Skrivanek, Nicholas Skrivanek, Barbara Skrivanek, Elizabeth Skrivanek, Paul Schneider and Jim Bringe. Honorary pallbearers will be the Twin Valley Rescue Squad. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Friday.
Burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Melrose, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Twin Valley Rescue Squad.
