Obituary

Edward (Eddy) Clarence Hegg, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Eddy was born on May 6, 1947, in Fosston, MN, to Richard and Ruth (Leslie) Hegg. He spent his early years on the family farm in Beaulieu Township, where he worked alongside his parents and five siblings to help keep the farm running. It was a humble but lively home, built on hard work, love, and a strong sense of family.

After graduating from Mahnomen High School, Eddy enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following basic training, he was accepted into a top-secret Air Force training center, where he graduated with a record-breaking test score—a point of pride for his family. His military service took him across the globe, serving on the Air Force General Staff both in the United States and the Philippines. After receiving an honorable discharge, Eddy continued his education at the Dunwoody Institute, earning a certificate in Heating and Air Conditioning.

He went on to work for several service companies in and around Crookston and Mahnomen, MN. Known for his precision and dependability, Eddy developed a reputation for high-quality installations and expert-level troubleshooting. His craftsmanship and quiet dedication earned him the respect of coworkers and clients alike.

Beyond work, Eddy had a wide array of interests and passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, riding four-wheelers, shooting guns, and spending time with those closest to him. Eddy also had a creative side—he loved assembling intricate LEGO sets, a hobby that brought him hours of joy. He had a special bond with his dogs, who were his constant companions and a source of great comfort and love throughout his life.

Eddy is survived by his sister, Ella Hegg Harthun; his brother, Vern (Sharon) Hegg; and his sister, June Hegg; and sister-in-law, Shirley Hegg. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth; his brother, Arlo Hegg; his sister, Lila Hegg Gunderson; brother-in-law, Floyd Harthun; and his niece, Linda Gunderson.
