Edna Anna Vik, age 90, of Mahnomen, MN, died Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home in Mahnomen with family at her side.

Edna Anna Wolbeck was born June 6, 1926, to Henry and Anna (Hiltner) Wolbeck in Pembina Township. She attended country school through the eighth grade and helped on the family farm. On September 20, 1944, Edna wed Bendik "Bennie" Vik in Ogema, MN. While Bennie served in the Army, Edna remained at the farm with her parents. Following his honorable discharge in November of 1946, Bennie and Edna spent the next year and a half living on the Wolbeck farm east of Mahnomen. Bennie began working construction and Edna traveled with him until they started a family. The couple put down roots in Mahnomen and were blessed with six children. In June of 1953, the family moved to the house they still own today. Edna has lived at the nursing home since June of 2012.

Although Edna always remained busy with her children, helping her parents, cleaning, gardening and baking, she could be ready to go fishing in a moment's notice. She loved the time spent fishing with family both in the summer and winter months. She was known as the Camp Cook during deer hunting and she always had some type of homemade goodie like cinnamon rolls, bread or kolaches to share when you stopped over for a visit. Edna had a huge garden with abundant produce and she enjoyed berry picking and baking. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, dice and the occasional trip to the casino. Edna loved her family and cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and part of its Ladies Aid. She will be missed by many.

Edna is survived by their six children: Michael (Sherry) of Mahnomen, Kelly (Kathy) of Isanti, MN, Donna (Larry) Thelen of Isanti, Millie Wright of El Cajon, CA, Darlene (John) Wardarski of Big Lake, MN, and Karen F. Wadena of Bemidji, MN; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie in 2000; her son-in-law, Lawrence Wadena and all ten of her siblings, including their spouses.
