Obituary

Edna Nelson, age 94 of Twin Valley, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died Thursday, November 03, 2011 at the Twin Valley Living Center.

Edna Irene Foss was born July 20, 1917 near Hatton, ND, the daughter of Lars and Andrea (Weltikol) Foss. She was raised on the family farm east of Hatton and attended country school. As a young woman, she helped her family on the farm. On October 29, 1942 Edna was united in marriage to Ernest Nelson in Northwood, ND. The couple made their home in Colorado where Ernest was stationed. During WWII, he was sent overseas so Edna returned to North Dakota and lived in Mayville. Following the war and an honorable discharge, Ernest's employment brought them to several communities including Halstad, MN, Ada, MN, Wheaton, MN, Thief River Falls, MN, and Mahnomen. In the fall of 1952, they settled in Mahnomen where they raised their family. Ernest died on July 14, 1996 and Edna continued to live in Mahnomen until 2005 when she became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center.

As a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, Edna was part of the Ladies Aid, Circle and quilters group. She enjoyed doing embroidery work, crossword puzzles and tending to her flower garden.

Edna is survived by one daughter, Renae Nelson, Seattle, WA; three sons: Lynn (Pat), Moorhead, MN, Ernest (Ivy), Baker City, OR and Donald, Delano, MN; eight grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; eight brothers and six sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 12th at 11 am at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Pastor Tom Pairan will officiate with Diane Spaeth serving as organist. Her pallbearers will be Gary Nelson, Brand Nelson, Guy Nelson, Bryan Nelson, Michael Nelson and Skyler Nelson. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Mahnomen.
