Edith Prestegord's Obituary
Edith Prestegord, age 94, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Edith Othillia Verdahl was born February 28, 1915, the daughter of Halvor and Ellen Verdahl on the family farm northeast of Flom, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at Aspelund Lutheran Church at Flom. Edith attended school at Waubun and later, as a young lady, did housekeeping in the Hatton, North Dakota area. On December 4, 1941, Edith was united in marriage to Lars Prestegord on her parent's farm near Flom. While her husband was in the military, Edith accompanied him to Texas and California. Upon his discharge in, the couple bought a farm east of Twin Valley where they made their home until Lars' death in 1987. Shortly after that, Edith moved into the Wimmer Cabins in Twin Valley which became like a second family to her. She made that her home until moving into the Twin Valley Living Center in the late 1990's. Edith resided there until the time of her death.
In her younger years, Edith was active in the Wild Rice Lutheran women's circle and aid. Edith's favorite past times included many handiwork projects such as embroidering and quilting as well as playing cards. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Edith is survived by a daughter, Janice (Bobby) Brevik of Tulaby Lake, MN and a son, Richard (Barbara) Prestegord of Hillsboro, ND; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
Funeral Services was held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley. Visitation were one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Officiating was Pastor Chad Peterson with---- serving as organist and special music provided by Kaley Hellerud and Bobby Brevik. Pallbearers were all of her grandchildren, Kerry Hellerud, Matt Brevik, Mike Brevik, Kelly Prestegord, Tammy Wellman and Tara Prestegord.
Interment is in the Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley.
