Edith M
Dunham
Jul 10, 1932 — Oct 7, 2023
Ulen
Edith "Edie" Dunham, age 91, of Ulen, MN passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, October 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Edith Marie (Peterson) Dunham was born on July 10, 1932, in rural Solway, MN to Edgar and Zelma (Ward) Peterson. Edie graduated from Bemidji High School, and soon after, she moved to Fargo, ND where she met Jerry. Edie was united in marriage to Jerry Dunham on June 11, 1955. Together they owned and operated a gas station in Moorhead, MN. In 1957, they sold the gas station and moved to a farm in Keene Township near Ulen. This is where they raised their family, including several neighbor kids. As a busy farm wife and mother, Edie took care of milking the cows and was always busy in the kitchen. She was well known for her home cooked meals and homemade bread. She never knew how many she would be feeding but all were welcomed to the table. In 1981, they moved to a hobby farm near Ulen. Edie worked at the Cafe in Ulen until 2000, when she retired to do daycare for her first great grandchild, Brooklyn.
Edie was a dedicated volunteer to the community and enjoyed going to the Viking Manor to play whist. She was a long-time member of the Keene Church until its closure, at which time she joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she attended the weekly quilting group. She was active with the Ulen VFW Auxiliary, spending many hours selling poppies and working with fellow women preparing and serving meals for the community. Edie was a former member of the Ulen Rescue Squad, and over the years, she proudly organized many Ulen community blood drives
Edie had many hobbies that kept her busy such as baking, cooking, gardening, drawing, woodburning, and sewing. She especially took pride in sharing her skills with her beloved family and friends. Edie's true passion was her family. She could always be found at her grandkids and great grandkids events supporting them. She loved camping with the family and often rode along on the Belgian wagon with Jerry, to be on the trails with her family. She looked forward to planned holiday visits, but her door was always for anyone who came by. Everyone knew coffee and sweets were ready by four o'clock. After Jerry's passing in 2018, Edie left the farm to be surrounded and cared for by her family. Edie will be remembered for her faith in God, kind soul and loving smile.
She is survived by her daughters, Arlys (Philip) Matson and Diane (Kenneth) Matson; her special nephew, Joe (Lisa) Kluver; grandchildren: Tori (Lovette) Spencer, Amy (Blake) Madson, Cassie (Jeffrey) Pender, Brittany Lien, Patrick Simon, and Kenny (Karen) Kluver; her great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Lane Spencer; Jerran, Bella and Easton Madson; Austin, Cole, Matison, Carter, Ray and Kinley Pender; Nora Simon; and Makenna Lien; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Jerry; two sons, Jerry Jr and James; two grandchildren, Jordan Matson and Christina Simon; both parents; her sisters, Ellie and Annie; and an infant brother and sister.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at the Keene Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ulen, following the funeral service.
