Edith Christine Olson (nee Anderson)
Edith "Edie" Christine Anderson was born on the family farm outside of Winger, MN on February 12, 1923 to Johanna and Carl Anderson. She had 2 older brothers, Sydney and Arnold and a younger sister Joyce.
She lost her mother before she was 10 and because of her new roles as the "mom" and "the farm worker" she could not attend High School. She lived and worked in Minneapolis for a while. In her early 20's she attended a Tex and the Bronco Busters dance and, as fate would have it, met a very handsome young man named Bob. After a courtship that included red roses, and flights in a red Piper Cub airplane, they married on May 1, 1949. Four children soon followed; Bob, Dave, Becky and Terri. While residing in Colorado there was camping in the mountains with trips to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and the annual trips back to Minnesota.
Bob was an airline pilot so they traveled to Hawaii, Norway and New Zealand, in addition to the annual trips to Minnesota. The Minnesota visits were filled with fishing adventures, rain or shine, as well as legendary croquet competitions with her brothers and in-laws. The entire family will forever miss her delicious fish fries. Her active lifestyle was diminished due to chronic pain but she rallied to make her summer trips to the Minnesota lake home. She continued this as long as she could even after her husband died in 2008.
Edie was a wonderful homemaker, skillful with pie making, cake decorating, sewing and gardening, growing the most beautiful flowers. She had a green thumb and the kids would bring to her their dying plants to revive, successfully. She enjoyed league bowling and won a large number of trophies and a few turkeys. She was also a life-long member of the Lutheran Church.
She longed to finish her missed education, so she went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse. She was able to work as a LPN for a period of time.
Edie passed on Saturday, May 3, 2014.
Her brothers and sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her four adult children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with a 7th due in a few weeks.
A time of gathering with food and fellowship for Edie will be held Saturday, July 19th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger, from 1-2 p.m. An informal service will be held at 2 p.m. followed by inurnment at the Calvary Cemetery in Winger.
