Obituary

Earl Kjos, Jr., age 42, of Butte, MT, formerly of Waubun, MN, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 in Butte.

Earl James Jr. was born September 9, 1966, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the oldest child of Earl James Sr. and Cheryl (Pederson). He grew up in the Waubun area where he attended school. Earl was united in marriage to Margaret Kako. The couple made their home in Park Rapids, MN, and was blessed with a daughter, Jenifer. Earl later moved back to the Mahnomen area where he worked as a cashier at the Shooting Star Casino. Over the years, Earl also worked various jobs including driving truck, logging, factory work and remodeling houses. His recent employment of working on cell phone towers took him to Butte in July of 2008.

Earl loved the mountains and the outdoors. Some of his favorite pastimes included water-skiing, snowmobiling, boating and hunting.

Earl is survived by a daughter, Jenifer Kjos, of Greenville, NC; his parents, Earl, Sr. and Cheryl Kjos, of Waubun, MN; one brother, Mark Kjos, also of Waubun; one sister, Lori Amundsen, of Fridley, MN; two nephews, Michael and Robert "Bob"; one niece, Ashley and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11 am at Lake Grove Lutheran Church, rural Waubun, MN. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 16th from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Anderson ~ Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Lake Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Waubun.
