Obituary

Dwight Fuglie, age 66, of Pelican Rapids, MN, formerly of Twin Valley, MN, died Friday, February 17, 2017 under the care of Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs, while wintering in Hot Springs Village, AR. Dwight Arden Fuglie was born August 30, 1950, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Allan and Genella (Hogenson) Fuglie. As a child he was raised in Ulen, MN, until the age of six. He then moved with his family to Biwabik, MN, for several years before moving to Lake Park, MN. In his early teens they moved to Twin Valley where he graduated from the Twin Valley High School with the class of 1968. He worked at various jobs until he became administrator of Sunnyside Nursing Home in March of 1972. On August 5, 1972 Dwight was united in marriage to Gerry Boreen at Wild Rice Lutheran Church near Twin Valley. They made their home in Lake Park for the next four years. In 1977, they moved to Halstad, MN, where he became the administrator of the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home. After his father's death in 1980, Dwight applied for and was offered the Administrators position, replacing his dad, at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in Twin Valley, a position he held until his retirement in 2014. They have made their home on the lake near Pelican Rapids, MN, for the past several years and wintered in Arkansas. Dwight was an active member of the LeadingAge Minnesota Association throughout his career. In 2015, Dwight was bestowed with an Honorary Membership in the Association for a career of exemplary leadership. During his time with LeadingAge Minnesota, Dwight served on the Alternative Care Models Work Group, Payment and Service Delivery Systems Committee, and the Quality Improvement Committee. Another distinction Dwight held was being the youngest nursing home administrator in the state of Minnesota, at the age of 21. Dwight enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering in his shop and the outdoors. He loved camping and vacationing with his family and spending time with the grandkids. In the summer Dwight spent time biking out on the open highway on his Harley, enjoying the freedom of the outdoors. Dwight loved being involved with and overseeing building projects whether it was new apartment complexes, assisted living facilities, nursing home additions and remodels or in one case, an all-new nursing home. In each case it was for the care of the elderly. On the simpler side he found a great amount of pleasure in just sitting with a friend and having a cup of coffee. Dwight is survived by his wife Gerry, Pelican Rapids, MN; one daughter, Alice (Mark) Rammel, St. Cloud, MN; one son, Luke (Holly), Fargo, ND; his mother, Genella Fuglie, Twin Valley, MN; one sister, Karen Fuglie, Sartell, MN; one brother, Paul (Deb) Malakoff, TX; mother-in law, Jeanne Boreen, Detroit Lakes, MN; one sister-in-law, Ardelle Mickelson, Burnsville, MN; and four grandchildren: Savannah, Annika, Ziva and Ezekiel. He was preceded in death by his father, Allan; one brother, Richard; and his father-in-law, Grant Boreen. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lodge in Rochester at 411 2nd St. NW, Rochester, MN 55901
