Duane Orrin Opdahl, 73, Fertile, MN died Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Benedictine Living Community in Ada, MN after a one year battle with cancer.

Duane was born December 5, 1944, to Alvin and Dora (Stromstad) Opdahl. Growing up he was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church, rural Beltrami. He attended school at Beltrami and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.

He married Yvonne Engeseth in June, 1974.

He farmed for many years, first in partnership with his brother and then on his own. He was currently working for Paul Engelstad.

Duane loved to fish, spending time up at Lake of the Woods, camping and fishing. As a young man he raced snowmobiles, first for Boatel, then Artic Cat and eventually, Polaris. He also did a lot of stock car racing even into his later years! He had served on the Cenex Coop Board, as supervisor for the Spring Creek Township, and on the Fertile Volunteer Fire Department.

He entered the nursing home in August, 2018.

Duane is survived by his brother LeRoy (Jane) and their children Heather (Larry) Fontaine, Ryan (Rebecca) Opdahl and Jeremy (Alison) Opdahl. Also surviving Duane are his grand nieces and nephews: Mitchell, Joseph (Haven), Jake and Olivia Fontaine, Madelyn, Cody, and Tessa Opdahl , and Dinah Opdahl. Preceding him in death are his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral: 10:30AM Monday, September 10, 2018, at Resurrection Free Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home in Fertile, MN.

Burial: Scandia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beltrami, MN.
