Douglas Swenson, age 47, of Gary, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 12, 2009, in Bridges Medical Services in Ada, Minnesota.
Douglas James Swenson was born June 24, 1961, the son of Peter and Sally (Campbell) Swenson in Bagley, Minnesota, where he was raised and attended school and later in Crystal, North Dakota. As a young man he entered the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, Doug had the opportunity to travel throughout the world. After his discharge, he was employed by the state of Oregon and worked in the emissions control department. On March 18, 1996, Doug was united in marriage to Rebecca Johnston at Grafton, North Dakota. Later they moved their family to Hendrum, Minnesota, and Doug attended school in Fargo and Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he studied to be a journeyman electrician. Doug became a journeyman electrician and worked in commercial and industrial construction. A year and a half ago, they found the farm of their dreams, near Gary. Doug had been disabled for the past seven years.
Doug's Christian faith was important in his family's daily life. He enjoyed nature, camping with his family, singing, wood working, hunting and fishing. Doug and Rebecca loved riding their Harleys which all of their children, grandchildren and friends shared in their passion.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Rebecca, two sons, Dustin Momerak and Douglas (Ole) Swenson, II, all of Gary, MN; daughters, Samantha (Tim) Geinger of Abercrombie, ND and Amy Swenson of Dilworth, MN; sons, Mark (Shanda) Anderson of Halstad, MN, Jesse Johnston of East Grand Forks, MN, Robbie Swenson, , MN; father, Peter Swenson of Twin Valley, MN and mother, Sally Swenson of Shelly, MN; a sister, Kathy (Allan) Morkassel of Warren, MN; brothers Keith (Terri) Swenson and Roger Swenson all of Shelly, MN and Craig Swenson of Crookston, MN; father-in-law, Harold Johnston of Park River, ND; brother-in-law, Fabion Brouillard of Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and dear friends and loved ones.
Funeral Services was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, Minnesota.
