Douglas Selmer Paulson, 71, Halstad, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Fargo Sanford Hospital with family by his side.

Doug was born on December 20, 1954, to Selmer and Verna (Swenson) Paulson in Fargo, ND at St. Luke's Hospital. He attended Kindred High School and graduated in 1974. Doug later met Kim at a race car track with some friends. Doug married Kim on October 27, 1984, at the Christ Lutheran Church, Georgetown, MN. They were blessed together with two children, Elizabeth and Michael. They raised their family in Fargo, ND and Perley, MN until the summer of 2017 when they moved to Halstad, MN.

Throughout Doug's life he served as a Sergeant in the Army leading an 8-man crew in an engineering unit for 40 yrs. While in the Army he worked with Northern Pipe Products for 17 years, he then continued his career with Buhler Manufacturing until his retirement in 2014.

Doug enjoyed going to sports games, gardening with Kim, going on family vacations, reading books (Stephen King) and spending time with friends and family.

Doug was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

Douglas is survived by his son, Michael Paulson, daughter, Elizabeth (Rene) Tovar; three grandchildren, Desirae Tovar, Anthony Tovar and Emilio Tovar; brothers-in-law, John (Melanie) Ziegler, Donald (Timberlee) Ziegler, Richard Ziegler, and Glen Ziegler; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Paulson; parents, Selmer and Verna Paulson; grandparents, Ole and Sella Paulson, and Albert and Selma Swenson; sister, Janice Hinds; and brother-in-law, Chris Ziegler.

We will miss our dad dearly but know that he is with mom now and will continue to guide us during this journey. We would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.

Funeral Service: 3:00 PM, Friday, June 19, 2026 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.

Interment with full military rites: Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown, MN.
