Obituary

Douglas Krogstad of Perley, MN went to his heavenly home on Friday, January 28, 2011, with his family by his side. He was 60 years old. Doug was born on June 11, 1950, the son of Colin and Valborg Krogstad. He grew up on the family farm, near Perley, and graduated from Hendrum High School in 1968. In 1970, Doug began farming with his dad and continued this work for 40 years. On September 14, 1974 Doug was united in marriage to Dee Osell. To their union they were blessed with a son, Dan and a daughter, Katie. As a seasoned farmer, Doug was very proud when his son joined the family business where they actively farmed together until Doug's retirement in 2010.

An avid outdoorsman, Doug spent much of his spare time in Bemidji where he enjoyed fishing and the company of his friends. Fall trips to the hunting camp near Roseau, MN were a time to relax, hunt, and simply enjoy the outdoors. Each spring he liked driving around the countryside picking wild asparagus. Doug also enjoyed bird watching and feeding the family of squirrels that played outside his home.

Aside from his hobbies, "Papa Doug" dedicated his life to his children and grandchildren. He took great pleasure in spending time with Natalie before and after school, and playing "Toad" with Jon and Abi. Summer weekends were often filled with fishing and laughter at Lake Sarah with Katie and Josh. Doug truly appreciated farming with Dan and spent endless hours teaching him the ways of the land. His family was his life. The things he taught them and the simple way he touched their hearts will be remembered forever.

Doug is survived by one son, Daniel (Allison) Krogstad of Perley, MN; daughter, one Katherine Krogstad (Joshua Roed) of McIntosh, MN; grandchildren Natalie, Abigail and Jonathan; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Newburgh of Perley, and Randee (Monte) Haiby of Hunter, MN; brother in-law, Lloyd Canaday of Moorhead, MN; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and canine companion, Turbo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Charlotte, his brother-in-law Ernie, and a niece, Shauna.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 all at Kirkebo Lutheran Church.
