Obituary

Douglas Wayne Iverson was born July 5, 1948, in Mahnomen, MN. He passed away July 14, 2016, at the Manor Care Facility in Fargo, ND, at the age of 68.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Mildred (Urdahl) Iverson. Doug grew up on a small farm in Faith, MN, where he attended and was confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. His family moved to Twin Valley, MN, where he attended high school and graduated in 1966. Doug was very involved in sports, basketball being his favorite which he continued to play into his adult life. He was an accomplished musician, playing a "mean" saxophone in a stage band along with singing in various choirs. After graduation, Doug joined the United States Navy in 1967. While in the service, he traveled the world from San Diego, California, Naha, Okinawa, Rota, Spain, Virginia Beach, Virginia and many places in between including service during the Vietnam War. His enlisted service career advanced quickly and he was selected for the officer's program and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. After retirement, he worked in Audubon at Team Industries, and then moved to Fargo, ND. He approached his military and civilian careers with a sound work ethic and never lost that winning smile, sense of humor, or the sparkle in his blue eyes that people who knew him knew so well. He was always respectful of other people and loved his country.

Doug is survived by his two sons: Eric (Lisa) Iverson of Tucson, AZ, Sean (Sarah) Iverson of San Antonio, TX, four grandsons: Dylan, Chase, Ethan and Jacob; four brothers: Dave (Linda), Dennis (JoAnn) both of Detroit Lakes, James (Bonnie) of Fergus Falls, and Jeffery (Kathy) of Staples; aunt, Margaret and uncle, Dale, of Moorhead, MN, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doug will be remembered by his family and friends and all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
