Dorothy Jean Mjelde, 80, of Hallock, MN, formerly of Beltrami, MN, died in the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Saturday, March 3, 2012.

She was born on February 26, 1932, at home in Shelly, MN, to Arnold and Gladys Grosfield. Dorothy was baptized on May 1, 1932 and, later, confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Shelly-Marsh River Lutheran Church, Shelly. She attended grade school at Shelly, and High School in Climax, MN. While in school she worked at Gilmer's Café and also with her father on the coal truck, making deliveries to homes and businesses for heat.

On November 18, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Curtis Mjelde at Shelly. They made their home in Beltrami, MN, where they raised their four boys: Steven, Tom, Joe and Jim. Over the years, Dorothy worked for the Beltrami School as a secretary, Fair Meadow Nursing Home as a secretary, a Plumbing and Heating Co as a secretary, and as a sub postal clerk at the Beltrami Post Office for many years. Curtis died in October 25, 2002. Dorothy continued to live in Beltrami until 2007, when she moved to assisted living in Karlstad, MN. She moved to Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, as her health declined.

Being particular about her gardens and yard, brought Dorothy a lot of satisfaction. She would spend hours outside in the summer months pulling weeds, raking leaves, and cleaning the flower beds. These efforts were blessed with beautiful flowers. "Junk Shopping" with Curtis was enjoyable. (Curtis sat and watch people while Dorothy shopped for stuff they didn't need, affectionately called "Junk Shopping" by Curtis.) Grocery shopping was fun as Dorothy and Curtis stocked up on all kinds of necessities—their basement reflected the image of a small grocery store—and Dorothy made tremendous meals for her family from her stockpile. Playing Whist with her sister, Betty Ann and brother-in-law, Wally, was a great past time. Dorothy loved and was devoted to her family.

Dorothy is survived by four sons: Steve, Grand Forks, ND; Tom (Pat), Newfolden, MN; Joe (Becky), Castro Valley, CA; and Jim (Julie), Omaha, NE; 10 grandchildren: Denae, Tricia, Nicole, Eric, Shane, Ryan, Tiffany, Sara, and Kaley; 13 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Brady, Parker, Olivia, Evy, Collin, Jadyn, Kyllan, Cole, Madison, Hudson Shane Jr, Dominic and Trevor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Curtis, grandson, Jeremy David Mjelde, great-granddaughter, Emma Jean Bayne, one sister, Glo, two brothers, Clayton and Bill.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 11 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.
Visitation will be in Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service 6 pm in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
