Obituary

Dorothy Christianson, 84, of Halstad, Minnesota, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at the Halstad Living Center.

Dorothy Florence Jacobson was born on November 7, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Niebeling) Jacobson at the home farm in Hendrum, Township. She grew up and attended country school near Ada, MN, and graduated from Ada High School in 1944.

Dorothy was united in marriage with her lifetime partner, Roy Alton Christianson, on June 22, 1944, at East Marsh River Lutheran Church, rural Halstad, MN. She was very active on the farm being a busy farm wife and raising six children. Dorothy, along with Roy, flew coast to coast in their Bonanza airplane visiting many relatives. They were very active in the Flying Farmers Association. In 1963, Dorothy was crowned Queen of the MN Flying Farmers Assoc. She was an active member of Halstad Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and quilting at the church, and a member of the Halstad Woman's Club since 1968. Dorothy loved attending all activities for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending as much time with them as she could. She especially enjoyed time at the lake cabin on Lake Melissa, a place where family time was memorable. In her spare time she liked crossword puzzles and reading.

Dorothy is survived by her six children: Gene (Penny) Christianson, Fargo, ND, Harvey (Cheryl) Christianson, Halstad, MN, Diane (Bob) Knote, Dickinson, ND, Linda (Rod) Rath, Black Hawk, SD, Lyle (Shelly) Christianson, Arvada, CO, and Rodney (Heidi) Christianson, Brookings, SD; 16 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law, Lois Jacobson, Renton, WA, Mary Christianson, Halstad, MN, Donna Christianson, Fairmount, MN and Phyllis Christianson, White Earth, MN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, one great grandchild, Owen Grant Christianson, one sister, Ethel Foss, two brothers, Clyde and Lester.

Funeral Service: 10:00AM on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: 5-7PM Thursday with a 7PM prayer service at Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad.

Burial: Halstad South Cemetery, Halstad, MN.
