Dorothy Aaby, age 79, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Saturday, September 19, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy Mae Lundon was born July 4, 1936, the daughter of William and Ella (Zenner) Lundon in Ada, Minnesota. Since she was born on the 4th of July, she was their 'firecracker' child. She grew up in the city of Ada and attended Ada High School. Since her mother died at a young age, Dorothy helped her family by taking a job at Engelhart Drug in Ada. It was there that she met her soulmate, Henry Aaby Jr. They were married on May 16, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church and resided on a farm southwest of Twin Valley for most their 56 years of marriage. On this farm, they raised their children Cindy, Tom, Chris, and Jeremy. In 2011, they moved into Twin Valley. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, kind friend, and very proud of her Irish heritage. She may have been a homemaker as a profession, but her duties went far beyond that. She could be seen regularly driving tractor or doing various jobs on the farm. Dorothy was an active member of the church, taught Sunday School, was a member of the alter guild and Ladies Aid, and served Senior Meals. She may have been born with Irish and German heritage, but she became a converted Norwegian by cooking lefse and lutefisk for her family. Henry and Dorothy traveled the United States throughout their life and visited England, Norway, Ireland several times. In her later years of life, she took great joy in being a grandparent, as their travels now focused on visiting them. One of her favorite places to be at was Tulaby Lake. The lake became her choice of summer vacation starting in 1966 and continued throughout 2015. She enjoyed sitting by a campfire, reading, and relaxing at the lake. Dorothy's other favorite pastime was cheering on the Minnesota Twins.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Henry of Twin Valley, MN; daughter Cindy (Dan) Johnson of Twin Valley, MN; sons: Tom (Maureen) Aaby of Scottsdale, AZ, Chris (Juanita) Aaby of Lacey, WA, and Jeremy (Cheryl) Aaby of Burnsville, MN; six grandchildren: Chase and Cody Johnson, Samantha Beckman, Jaden and Corey Aaby, and Lundon Aaby; sisters: Phyllis (Clayton) Drake, Ellen (Ronald) Holtman, and Joan (Mark) Chisholm; and sister-in-law, Betty (Richard) Lundon.
