Doris
Wiger
Jan 8, 1931 — Sep 4, 2025
Fargo
Doris Wiger, age 94, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Twin Valley, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo.
Doris Elaine Christensen was born on January 8, 1931, to John and Martha Christensen on the family farm near Faith, MN. She attended a nearby country school before graduating from Twin Valley High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Doris pursued her passion for teaching, earning her elementary education degree from Minnesota State University in 1950, where she was also a proud member of Phi Delta Kappa. Her teaching career began in Newfolden, MN, and Valley City, ND, before she returned closer to home.
On August 28, 1953, Doris married Arlin Wiger at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and together they made their home on the family farm near Faith. Doris continued teaching elementary school in Twin Valley and Gary, dedicating herself to her students until her retirement in 1996. After Arlin's passing in 2000, Doris moved to Fargo in 2006. In later years, she made her home at New Perspective Senior Living in West Fargo before residing at Bethany Senior Living.
Doris was a gifted crafter, creating award-winning quilts now cherished by her family and knitting countless prayer shawls to comfort those in need. Her faith was central to her life; she served for many years as the organist at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and later became active at Zion Lutheran, participating in the Celebration Singing Group and contributing to church projects. After moving to Fargo, she joined Hope Lutheran where she was an active quilter and donated numerous quilt tops. She also had a lifelong love of gardening. On the farm, she grew abundant vegetable gardens, canning and sharing her harvest, and later found joy in tending her beautiful flower beds in town. During her children's younger years, she was also involved with 4-H and supported their activities. Most of all, Doris treasured her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her presence, wisdom, and warmth will be profoundly missed.
Doris is survived by her children: Rollin (Cindy) Wiger, Dean (Donna) Wiger, Pam (John) Carlson, and Tim (Heather) Wiger; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlin; an infant daughter; brothers, Kenneth, Merrill, Donald, and Robert; and sister, Ina Mae.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00am, with a visitation starting one hour before, at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Burial will take place at St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Twin Valley.
