Obituary

Doris Moen, age 88, of Ulen, MN, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Sanford Health, Fargo.

Doris Elaine Gosnell was born January 9, 1927, the daughter of Weldon and Sallie (West) Gosnell in White Marsh, MD. As a small child, Doris was raised in an orphanage and attended high school in Frederick, MD. After graduation, she furthered her education by going to nursing school.  During her training, Doris worked at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.  She met the love of her life, Oliver Moen, who happened to be on Navy leave at the time. Doris and Oliver were united in marriage on January 20, 1947, in Ulen. The couple made their home on the farm with Oliver's parents and they farmed together. In 1948, they moved to Matlin, FL, and they were blessed with a daughter, Jean.  In 1949, the couple returned to Ulen where they purchased a farm northwest of town.  They farmed for several years and their son, Wayne, was born.  In the early sixty's the family returned to Frederick and Doris again worked at the hospital there. In 1964, they came back to the farm near Ulen where they built a house and raised their family. Over the years, Doris had been employed at Eventide in Moorhead as well as the Ulen Clinic.  She proudly worked 22 years with the Viking Manor Nursing Home. Shortly after Oliver's death on October 21, 2010, Doris moved into the Agassiz Apartments in Ulen and more recently had moved into the Assisted Living.
Doris' favorite pastimes included watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk on television as well as reading. Due to necessity while raising her family, Doris always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning for her family.  She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and in her retirement was active with the quilting group.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Jean Truman of Ulen, MN; a son, Wayne (Kim) Moen of Ada, MN; three grandchildren: Lana (Cory) Schatschneider and Aubrey and Michael Moen; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Grant Schatschneider; sisters, Myrtle Fraley of Mt. Airy, MD and Betty Sagarsee of Wabash, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Mildred and a son-in-law, Ralph Truman.
