Obituary

Doris McQuown, age 81 of Mahnomen, MN, formerly of Gary, MN, died Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Doris Ann Talbot, the daughter of Bert and Hannah (Johnson) Talbot, was born on March 30, 1935, in Aurora, IL. She was raised in Aurora and attended school there. After the eighth grade, Doris stayed home to care for her siblings with health issues. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary for the Barber Green Company in Illinois. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Paul McQuown. The couple was married on November 5, 1960, and along with Paul's five children their family grew with the birth of three more children.  In 1973, they moved from Illinois to Gary, MN, where they had purchased a farm. They moved to St. Louis Park, MN, in 1984, where they lived for twenty years before returning to Gary. A few years ago, they moved into Mahnomen and after 54 years of marriage, Paul passed away on January 16, 2015. Doris has continued to make her home at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Doris is survived by her children: Tim (Jenny) McQuown of Elk River, MN, Rob McQuown of Ada, MN, and Tammie McQuown of Fargo, ND; her step-children: Linda (Dave) McCoy of Bowling Green, OH, Jeanne (Matt) Brusatori of Plainfield, IL, Karen Harding of Dixon, IL, David McQuown also of Bowling Green, Paula (Greg) Kula of Wood Dale, IL; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her sister, Helen; brothers, Kenneth and Robert; an infant sibling; and a niece.

The family requests that memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association, one of the many local Veterans Associations, or a local organization close to your heart.

A time of Gathering was held Friday, September 16, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
