Doris Avis (Aanenson) Alexander, 97, Ada, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.
Doris was born on January 27, 1926 to Elias and Christina Aanenson in their family's home west of Ada. She was baptized and confirmed. Doris attended country school in Ada and later in Fertile, MN. On June 26, 1948 she married Jesse Alexander Jr. in a ceremony at the Methodist Church parsonage in Ada. Their life together was blessed with five children. Jesse died in November of 2007; six months short of their 60 th wedding anniversary.
Jesse and Doris were members of the Faith United Church where she served in the Ruth Circle. Doris was a member of her rural neighborhood Helping Hand Social Club and Post 7557 VFW Auxiliary. Jesse and Doris were able to take many memorable trips and formed lifelong friendships while attending Rural Mail Carriers Conventions across the United States.
Doris thoroughly enjoyed her role as a mother and homemaker on their family farm south of Ada. She loved nothing more than being with her family. She enjoyed baking for family and friends, along with flower and vegetable gardening. Her children and grandchildren treasured the special-k bars, date filled oatmeal cookies and banana bread she'd bring to family get-togethers. Visits from friends or family as well as opportunities to play cards or bingo brought her joy.
Doris is survived by her children, Jane (Randy) Skalsky, Rita (David) Thronson, Glen (Deb) Alexander, Mary Gnadt, and Dean Alexander; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Milo (Eleanor) Aanenson; sister, Dorothy Stuhaug; and sister-in-law, Orpha Aanenson; along with many nieces and nephews who will remember her kind and quiet demeanor.
Preceding Doris in death were her husband, Jesse Alexander Jr.; parents, Elias and Christina Aanenson; siblings, Lester Aanenson, Sidney Aanenson, Sadie Padsack, Lila Peterson, Ethel Olson, and Alice Fetting; infant grandson, Joshua Thronson; and grandsons, Michael Thronson and Jacob Alexander, whom she missed everyday.
