Doreen Ruth Jirik, age 59, Mahnomen, Minnesta, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 in her home surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Doreen was born on April 6, 1948 in Mahnomen, to Sivert and Ruth (Stanhope) Remmie. She attended school in Mahnomen and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. Following graduation, Doreen moved to Roselle, Illinois. In 1969 she was united in marriage to Edmund Cyr. They continued to live in Roselle until 1976 when they moved to Bristol, Connecticut.
In the early 1980's, Doreen moved back to Mahnomen to make her home. She worked at the Red Apple Café, followed by the Pembina Lounge and Checkerboard Pizza before returning to the Red Apple. In 1985 she married Urban Jirik at St. Michaels in Mahnomen. Since that time they have made their home west of town.
Doreen was an avid reader and enjoyed reading whenever she had a spare moment. She cherished her grandchildren and spent endless hours enjoying their company.
She is survived by her husband, Urban; two daughters: Becky (Jason Hart) Coleman, Mahnomen; Tisha (Brian) Royer, New Hartford, CT; one brother, Harry "Bud" (Marlys) McDonald, Pierz, MN; three sisters: Judy (Kenny) Hedin, Two Harbors, MN; Joy Flathau, Elgin, IL; Mary Carter, CA; six grandchildren: Kayla, ShiAnn, Ruth, Destiny, Tyler, Cassie; and one great-grandchild, James Jr.
Preceding her in death were her parents; six brothers and three sisters.
