Donovan C. "Don" Anderson, 83, Ada, MN, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Essentia Health, Ada.
Don was born on February 14, 1932, at Clearbrook, MN, the son of Merle and Birdie (Olberg) Anderson. He graduated from Oklee (MN) High School and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Georgia and France for 2 years. He was honorably discharged and moved to Ada. Don was married to Janis Bergman and they were blessed with three children: Kenny, Gayle, and Dwight.
In 1958, he started working at the Ada Standard Station, and purchased the Standard Bulk Service. He eventually owned and operated the Amoco Bulk and Amoco Station and Transport. He retired from the BP business in 2003.
In 1983, Don was united in marriage to Roxanne (Roesch) Swanson, and acquired 2 step children, Wendy and Jeff. Don was very active in his community, as a longtime member of the Jaycees, Ada Lions, and Ada Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in local government, serving on Ada City Council and as Ada's mayor for 8 years. He went on to serve as a Norman County Commissioner for 16 years. As time allowed, Don & Roxy traveled and enjoyed their lake home on beautiful White Earth Lake.
Don enjoyed fishing and bird watching, and the times when they entertained family and friends at the lake. He found great relaxation in working in the yard, and was proud of his beautiful flowers and vegetable garden. Don entered the Benedictine Care Community in Ada in 2011.
Don is survived by his wife, Roxy, children: Kenny (Kristen) Anderson, Fargo, ND, Gayle (Todd) Finn, Brandon, SD, Dwight (Jennifer) Anderson, Ada, MN; step children: Wendy (Darrell) Hournbuckle, Jamestown, ND, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Swanson, Fargo, ND; 19 grandchildren; one brother: Romayne (Gwyn) Anderson, Austin, TX; two sisters: Ramona Anderson, of Utah, Janet (Timothy) Holdsworth, Carson City, NV; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother and sister, Donovan and Donna, and a grandson, Tylor John Hournbuckle.
Funeral Service: 2:00PM, Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Faith United Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: 5-7PM Wednesday with a 6PM prayer service at the church.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
