Donna Olson, age 80, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, September 24, 2018 at her residence under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Donna Mae Holtegaard, the daughter of Alfred and Marion (Olson) Holtegaard, was born on March 16, 1938 in Rushford, MN. As a child, she grew up and attended school in Chatfield, MN. Donna met Russell Olson and they were united in marriage on December 31, 1955 in Lockhart, MN.  Together they worked to build a life, family and farm near Twin Valley, MN. Donna was a city girl who grew to love the farm life, she truly became a farm girl through and through. Every year she could be found in the tractor tilling the soil for another bountiful season.

Donna always kept busy with farm life and family but in her spare time she enjoyed gardening, flea markets, reading, taking pictures, playing cards and monopoly. Donna had a special place in her heart for the animals on the farm. Due to her fondness of little pigs, Donna had gathered a collection of pigs, many of which she received as gifts from family and friends. Donna also liked going out for supper and Sunday drives that often ended at the Casino. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Over the years, Donna and Russell made many wonderful friends and precious memories wintering in Mission, TX. She had a love of people and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life. Everyone was a friend, never a stranger. This was often evident in the kitchen, as she loved to bake for anyone who was a guest in her home. Donna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Donna is survived by her husband, Russell of Twin Valley, MN; children, Kenny (Susie) Olson of Beltrami, MN, and Jeanie Olson of Avon, MN; grandchildren: Jeremy (Angie Buchanan) Olson of Twin Valley, MN, and Krista Olson of Denver, IA; great-grandchildren: Garrett Wahl, Cassy Buchanan, Caely Buchanan, Cody Buchanan, and Cole Buchanan; brothers: Larry Holtegaard, Bernie (Debbie) Holtegaard, and Richard (Barb) Holtegaard, all of Rochester, MN; and sister, Evie Gehrking of Spring Valley, MN.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Marion Holtegaard; brother, Lyle Holtegaard; sisters, Madelyn DeRuiter and Margel Lange; brothers-in-law, Cliff DeRuiter, Ronnie Gehrking, and Francis Lange.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30pm at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Burial will take place following the funeral on Monday at the Twin Valley City Cemetery.
