Donna JoAnn Hegre, 78, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Fertile, MN, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. She was born in Twin Valley, MN, to Julian and Esther (Dullum) Thompson. As a child her family moved to Fertile. Donna graduated from the Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1952, and continued her education at Interstate Business College in Fargo. Following her schooling she worked in Fargo doing office work.
On April 24, 1953, Donna was united in marriage to Paul Hegre in Fertile. They lived in Georgia for one year, while Paul was in the military, before settling in Fertile. They raised two daughters and four sons. Paul died on October 15, 2000. In 2008, Donna moved to Moorhead.
To meet Donna, one might think she was quiet and reserved, but at home and with those she knew, Donna was open and talkative. She and Paul took pride in keeping the yard looking nice, and Donna's favorite flowers were Pink Lady Slippers and Daisies. Being a great cook, family and friends fondly remember her donuts and potato dumplings. When winter came Donna enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and needle work. Donna was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Donna is survived by six children: Julie (Kent) Mason, Williams, MN; Jon (Cindy), Brainerd, MN; Jim, Brainerd, MN; Paul (DeLynn), Eagen, MN; Jerry, Fertile and Jodi (Scott) Burtsfield, Moorhead; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Donald and Dean Thompson, sister, Shirlee Youngquist.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2 PM in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Visitation will be one hour before the services.
Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
