Donna Fischer, 75, Ada, MN, died unexpectantly on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Savannah, GA.
Donna Joan was born November 6, 1936, to Louis and Elizabeth (Hekman) Gilsoul, near Lockhart, MN. She was baptized on October 28, 1937, and later confirmed on April 9, 1950, at First English Church in Lockhart. She grew up in Lockhart where she attended school for eight years; she continued her education at the Ada High School, graduating in 1954. After graduation, Donna moved to Fargo and worked there for a year before moving back.
On May 28, 1955, Donna was united in marriage to Benjamin Fischer at First English Church in Lockhart. Donna and Ben lived in Ada and she began working as a bookkeeper for Norman County Telephone Company. She worked there until she retired in 1990, after 35 years. On May 21, 1968, Ben and Donna brought Rodney Jon home to adopt and keep forever. The three of them then adopted Cynthia Lou on January 16, 1970, to also keep forever.
Donna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #7557. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting. She made baby blankets for all her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Donna loved going to her grandchildren's ball games. She also enjoyed going to the races at the Glyndon Speedway, for several years, to watch her son-in-law race. Trips to the casino were something Donna looked forward to. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends.
Donna is survived by one son: Rod (Michelle) Fischer, Glyndon, MN; one daughter: Cindy (Jimmy) Stene, Ada, MN; 6 grandchildren: Adam, Traci, Kayle, and Jordyn Fischer, Heather and Brandon Stene; one sister, Dorothy (Harv) Hays, Portland, OR; one brother-in-law, Wayne (Johna) Fischer, Brookings, SD, one sister-in-law, Yvonne Fischer, Brookings, SD, two god sons: Douglas Gigler and Wade Gnadt; and special friend: Glen Adkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben in 2001, two sisters, Evelyn Gilsoul and Ester Radtke; one brother: Harold Gilsoul.
Funeral Service: 10:30am Friday, January 13, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada.
Visitation: Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
