Obituary

Donald "Don" Wichern, age 89, of Nevis, MN, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Don was born on June 26, 1935, in Gary, MN, to Henry and Rosa (Allrich) Wichern. He graduated from Twin Valley High School and shortly after, in July of 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1960. After his service, Don returned home and worked various jobs in the community before finding his true calling with the Minnesota Highway Department in 1969. His nearly 30 years of dedication led him to a well-earned retirement in 1997, when he settled in Nevis on the beautiful shores of Lake Belle Taine.

In June of 1966, Don married Anna Brakob and the couple was blessed with two sons. They made their home in Fridley, MN. Although they divorced in October of 1992, Don and Anna remained friends throughout the years.

Don was a true outdoorsman, with a deep love for hunting and fishing. He was proud to have helped establish the rifle range north of Twin Valley and remained a committed member of the National Rifle Association. A natural handyman, Don enjoyed tinkering around his home and yard, always working on a project. His warm and sociable nature drew him to long conversations with friends and family, but his greatest joy in life was the time spent with his beloved grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his sons, Nick (Bonnie) Wichern and Thomas (Jennifer) Wichern; grandchildren: Veronica (Chantz), Max, and Mia "Alexx"; brother, Morris "Bud" Wichern; former wife, Anna Pribula; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Reinhardt Wichern and Murley Wichern; sister, Rosell "Sis" Portz; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation starting one hour before, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley, MN. Burial will take place at Immanuel Cemetery, rural Twin Valley.
