Obituary

Donald Porter, age 78, of Felton, Minnesota, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, in Innovis Health, Fargo, ND.

Donald P. Porter was born June 13, 1928, the son of Hal and Mary (Wood) Porter in New York City, New York. As a youngster, Donald moved throughout the United States with his family. They settled in Ellendale, North Dakota, where he graduated from Ellendale High School. As a young man, he worked as a cook in Fargo. On August 7, 1965, Donald was united in marriage to Janice Karstens in Fargo. The couple made their home in Fargo for a year before moving to Felton, where they have continued to make their home. In the early 1970's, Donald became employed by the Stieger Tractor Company in Fargo as a machinist. He continued to work there until his retirement in the early 1990's.

Donald was very proud of his Native American heritage as was evident in his writing of poetry and music. His talents included, but were not limited to, his musical abilities and also his artistic creativity and craftsmanship.

Donald is survived by his wife, Janice of Felton, MN; son, John of Fargo, ND; daughters, Donna (Arlen) French of Fargo, ND and Robin (Steve) Grimmett of Tewekesbury, England and four grandchildren.

His parents precede him in death.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 AM in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, Minnesota. Officiating will be Pastor Karla Mickelson. Native American ceremonies will be led by Delvin and Misty Roger. Natalie Hilde will serve as organist. Pallbearers will be Charlene French, Louis French, Aaron French, Kameron Grimmett, Arlen French, Delvin Roger, John Porter and Steve Grimmett.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton.
Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Interment will take place in the Felton Lutheran Cemetery, Felton, Minnesota.
