Donald John
Larsen
May 29, 1950 — Aug 2, 2026
Donald J. Larsen, age 76, Fertile, MN, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.
Donald John, the son of Charles and Eunice (Berg) Larsen, was born on May 29, 1950, in St. Paul, MN. He grew up in the St. Paul area and graduated from Johnson High School. In 1973, Donald enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to St. Paul, and met Gail Lagermaier, who would become his wife and perfect companion. Donald and Gail spent their years together living in several different communities, including many years in Texas, before eventually making their home in Laporte, MN. Donald enjoyed carpentry work and spent much of his working life in general labor positions. He was a hands-on person who appreciated keeping busy and helping where he could. Donald and Gail also spent many hours volunteering and supporting programs and causes that were important to them, finding simple ways to give their time and help others. Donald also had a special place in his heart for animals and adored his cats, especially his beloved feline friend, Cozmo. Five years ago, Don and Gail moved to Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile. Following Gail's passing in 2025, Don continued to make his home at Fair Meadow where he was a familiar face to staff and those around him. Donald had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking around with his caregivers and staff. His personality and ability to find a little humor in the day made him a special part of the Fair Meadow community.
Donald enjoyed watching sports and was a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Rummy, and appreciated the simple pleasure of a good game and time spent with others.
Donald will be remembered by his sister, Charlene Imgrund; brother, David Larsen; and by the many friends, caregivers, and others who came to know him throughout his years in Laporte and Fertile.
